I got the big camera out...

Me again :o)

I couldn't resist it and so I got the big camera out along with a few trains to hopefully remind myself of one of the reasons why I am doing this. Im far from good with a camera but hopefully the photos below will give the impression of what I am trying to achieve.

  1. Super photos and beautiful scenic work. I like the fact that there seems to be so much countryside between the viewer and the trains. I love pic 6.

    The fact that there is plenty of grass between the front of the layout and the track was deliberate, my idea was to present a railway in the countryside so your comment means lots to me.

  3. A lovely set of photos Julia which really capture the railway in the landscape, the 5th one down being really outstanding as its got everything.

      Apologies as they are a little grainy, I am guessing its something to do with that ISO stuff. Next time I will have a play with the setting and see what happens.I do like the way the shadows look in that particular photo though.

  4. Those photos are lovely - it has a similar atmosphere to the Gravett's Pempoul. Very effective.

      And I think, with a train passing, the signalman's pose is spot on, carefully checking the train as it passes!

  7. Showed the photos to a few of the interested at work and they were amazed it was a model, not reality. They were then further amazed when I explained the scale!! That autocoach is crying out for passengers but I love the photo of George talking to the crew (photo 3).

  8. Thats praise indeed, thank you :o) I do think the grainyness of the photos hides alot of 'sins' though, I will try better next time I can be bothered to get the 'big camera' out.

    The autocoach does seriously need some people doesnt it. I have changed the chassis but decided not to tackle the body until another time. Maybe it would be worth just putting some people inside for now.

    Very inspirational! Love the 5th photo, the shadows cast by the trees lend real atmosphere to the shot.

  12. Hi Julia, well you mentioned adding trains, and here they are! But not just any old trains, your locos and rolling stock blend in with the landscape so realistically. That's down to their excellent weathering and detailing I think.

    As iain says, pic 6 is particularly good, but I also really like no. 4. It's as if we're standing there by the lineside ourselves. I hope you take a little time to lean back and enjoy your work, as usual in life it was all worth it in the end :-)

      I cannot take any credit for weathering the loco but as you know, a bit of weathering blends everything together. There is very little in real life that is 100% clean. Also when I take photos I try to take them as low down as possible because I think it does give a much more realistic view on things. Photo 4 is my favorite too, as you say it does give a feel as if you are stood there watching the trains go by. All the photos are a result of me sitting back and enjoying my work but I am now back to building bits for it.

      I just wish I could present my bits as well as you do Mikkel, your posts with the back stories are the best.
